Surmet Corp. has the following job openings for its Corporate HQ at Burlington , MA :

1) Staff Accountant/HR and General Administration: This is a new position reporting to the Controller/CFO.  The person will be responsible to assist Controller in multiple areas: finance/accounting, special projects (i.e., selection and implementation of new accounting systems), human resources and contract administration. Duties and responsibilities will include accounting support for 4 Quickbook companies (subsidiaries of Surmet), journal entries, account reconciliation and analysis, back-up and support for accounts payable/account receivable functions, support in contract administration, human resource activities.

 The candidate should preferably have an accounting or finance degree or commensurate work experience in related area. This is a position for a unique person who has the ability to work independently, excellent communication skills, creative thinking, ability to work at fast pace and in a hectic environment will be other necessary skills.

2) Engineer/Scientist: The person will lead materials and processing trials, task level management, write reports, support proposal writing.  Materials include ceramic matrix composites and metal matrix composites, focus on converting technology into products.

    Duties and Responsibilities:        Lead technical work, report writing, task level management, guide technicians, support program management, technical marketing and proposal writing; creative thinking and hands-on skills to solve processing problems

    Qualifications: Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering or Materials Science with 3 years experience involving ceramics and ceramic composite processing, application engineering, technical writing, program management, presentations, excellent communication skills, creative thinking.

3) Technician: The person will be responsible for operation and maintenance of furnaces and other processing equipment, materials and  processing trials involving ceramic matrix composite and metal matrix composite materials.  Physical and mechanical characterization of materials.

     Duties and Responsibilities:       Operate and maintain materials R&D processing equipment,  creative  thinking and hands-on skills to solve processing problems, record data and procedures via personal computer tools.

      Qualifications: Associates degree in Engineering with 5 years hands-on experience involving materials R&D fiber handling procedures, process control instrumentation, use of personal computer for data recording excellent communication skills, creative thinking, team player.

4) Lead Optical Technician: The successful candidate will join our optical ceramic manufacturing team. Duties and responsibiiities will include help and support in the development of an optical lab, work on process development for Thiabaut machine (large scale optical ceramic grinding/polishing machine), help develop transparent armor polishing plan and develop E-clamp lapping lab. The person will also involve in skill transfer to and from our other facilities at NY and CA. The candidate will demonstrate an ability to floor manage optical lab as well as optical ceramic processing furnaces input and output.

Qualifications and Experience: Should have experience in general machine and grind/polish shop practices, experience with polishing Sapphire and equivalent hard ceramic material is required. Some CNC programming experience will be an added advantage. The candidate should be able to manage and guide others members of the team to meet daily, weekly and overall objectives.

1) R&D Engineer: We are looking for R&D Engineering candidates to support activates ranging from Materials Research to Process Development to Process Scale-up. Job responsibilities are as follows:

-Plans and performs project experiments to meet task objectives within ongoing R&D projects.

·Routinely and capably performs data reduction, analysis and interpretation.

·Proactively reports on experimental plans, activities, problems, results and conclusions to project leaders. Contributes to project/program reporting.

·Routinely recommends experimental activities and process/product improvements

· Assists managers in cost control efforts by analyzing requirements and suggesting efficient and economical solutions to existing or anticipated issues. 

· Keeps meticulous and regular records in an organized manner.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

·         Minimum B.S. degree in Materials Engineering or related field

·         Demonstrated related job skills from an industrial facility

2) R&D Technician: We are looking for R&D Technician candidates to support activates ranging from Materials Research to Process Development to Process Scale-up. Job responsibilities are as follows:

·Performs experiments as requested by engineers

·Performs furnacing and fabrication (i.e., mixing, processing and forming) processes.

·Properly operates all measurement devices used by R&D including balances, pH meters, calipers, micrometers, viscometers, etc.

· Assists in cost control by minimizing expenses and maintaining work efficiencies.

·Is responsible for proper housekeeping in all R&D areas.

· Is responsible for maintaining a safe work place, knowledge of appropriate MSDS information and all other relevant safety information.

· Keeps meticulous and regular records in an organized manner.

·Communicates frequently and effectively with the R&D Technicians, Lead, and engineering team.

·Assists production efforts and works in the analytical laboratory as required

  The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

· A.A.S or B.S. degree in Materials Engineering or Engineering Technology desired

· Demonstrated related job skills from an industrial facility

3) Operations Technician: We are looking for Operation Technician candidates to support production activities. Responsibilities are as follows:

· Operate equipment, including high temperature furnaces, blenders, mills, etc.

·  Perform production activities as assigned

· Collect and record process data as requested

·  Offer suggestions to shift leads and engineers for improvements related to quality, safety, and efficiency

· Assist shift leads in monitoring inventory levels for critical raw materials

·  Assist in performing development activities as requested

·  Cross-train between operations tasks

  The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

·  Demonstrated similar experience in a light manufacturing environment

· Demonstrated ability to perform multiple operations tasks with minimal supervision

We are looking for a suitable candidate for the position of Operations Manager at Surmet Precision Optics (SPO), Murrieta, CA. SPO is one of the wholly owned subsidiaries of Surmet Corporation, HQ in Burlington , MA .

Operations Manager: The candidate will manage our SPO Operations on a day to day basis to execute on customer funded fabrication, assembly and other activities of the well equipped facility having state of the art optics fabrication tools.

      Duties and responsibilities will include: To set work priorities working with program managers and achieve overall goals of Surmet Corporation. To cross trains people and manage work force; he/she will be responsible for on time and on budget delivery of products to customers. Will be responsible for knowing what the status of  any  product going through the shop is or at subcontractors/suppliers. Informs Surmet HQ on a daily basis about progress, problems and needs. 

      The candidate should have experience in optics fabrication and optical measurements with hands-on skills to solve processing problems. Familiarity with Mil-Spec and QC processes of military optics is desirable.

      Desired Qualification: BS or MS degree in Engineering or Materials Science with 5 years experience in managing an optics fabrication facility having multiple R & D projects.  A position similar to this, where government contract R& D program deliverables were the focus of the activities will also be acceptable.
