Surmet manufactures optically transparent ceramics for
a variety of applications. The materials currently manufactured include ALON™, Spinel, and Yttrium Oxide. These transparent polycrystalline oxide and oxynitride ceramics offer solutions to materials applications requiring a combination of engineering properties not available in glasses, single crystals, or conventional ceramics. The unique characteristics of these materials are high purity, transparency in the UV visible and IR, high hardness, chemical resistance, and high temperature resistance. ALON™ transparent ceramics are currently made in the form of plates, tubes and domes, and can be machined and polished to your specifications. Optical windows as large as 20" x 32" are currently produced.
Spinel and Yttria are currently under development and will be available soon for commercial applications.
