At Surmet, we take pride in the fact that even with an increasing focus on manufacturing and commercialization of existing advanced materials and coatings, we continue efforts to research and develop the next generation material solutions for our customers.

In addition to internally funded R&D programs targeted at commercial customers, Surmet has won several SBIR/STTR Phase I and Phase II programs funded by US Government agencies, and has successfully demonstrated the application feasibility of our technologies. Examples of these research programs include anti-stiction hydrophobic coatings for MEMS, corrosion erosion resistant coating for Naval aircraft engine components, oxidation resistant coatings for turbine blades, and coatings for aluminum die casting requiring a very low friction coefficient.

We also collaborate with various universities, institutions and national research laboratories to keep us abreast of the most recent advances in materials development. We have a very successful record in commercialization of new products and technologies, and have provided many enabling materials solutions, reducing the cost of ownership of capital equipment and improving processes for our customers.
